Update from GNYC Relief Team in Haiti 1/30/10

Saturday, January 30, 2010
This morning, our group of doctors and nurses, together with Pr. Merino and Walter Harris headed back to Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic as they have completed their mission here of providing medical attention to thousands of survivors. Team 2, composed of Pr. Reginald Barthelemy, Bro. Samuel Maxime and myself walked to “Temple Adventiste Sinai”, a church near the University for Sabbath School and the worship service. We found the building to be empty but came to see the entire service was being held outside at the yard of the church. There were over 300 people present for service, including some survivors who have lived there in small tents and shelters since the earthquake occurred. The sermon was presented by the Director of Personal Ministries of the Union. As Pr. Barthelemy translated the entire sermon for me, I realized the preacher was giving a message of hope, acknowledging the fact that “we should be thankful as we are still alive”. Together with this message of hope, he charged the congregation with the task of spreading the gospel during this time of hardship. The temperature must have reached the 90’s. We were greatly blessed by the service.
